ºclimo #8 – Q: How can I reduce my clinics impact on climate change?

Hello ºclimo,

As an environmentally conscious Audiologist I’m wondering if anyone knows the most environmentally friendly way to ship items.

How can I reduce my clinics impact on the climate change? Currently hearing aids are often imported from Europe to the UK. Any advice?

Thanks 🙂

  1. Hi Murray,
Having studied international logistics in my undergrad, I’d say that it can be quite complex when identifying the carbon footprint of deliveries. Most logistics companies are prioritising speed, so it would be great if you contact them directly and ask about their efforts to reduce their footprint and use clean energy etc. and to provide information to you.

  2. Would imagine avoiding long transportation of imported goods best, source local and ensure as much as poss sustainable transportation in your supply chain, if unavoidable use rail freight as best current low carbon option, avoid aviation and shipping👍

  3. Murray – have you thought about booking a meeting with an environmental consultant to carry out a lifecycle emissions assessment? I’d also recommend lobbying your MP to ensure the shipping industry becomes zero carbon asap, well before 2050. Part of this would involve speeding up investment into sustainable fuel for ships.
