A recent radical decision to walk down the opposite side of the street brought with it a pleasant surprise, in the shape of this spontaneous street-side bee garden:
Multiple bee species are on the verge of extinction throughout the UK, a study announced this week, due to climate change, habitat loss and pollution – a dire situation found around the world.
These bumbling little pollinators are absolutely vital to maintaining our current eco-system, and ultimately life on earth as we know it. All life on earth exists within a complex and interconnected relationship, which whilst being difficult to see in modern life, nevertheless shapes our lives on this planet in a way beyond most of our imaginations.
It is therefore no exaggeration to say that this threat to bees, along with the millions of other species reported a few weeks ago, represents a threat of extinction to humankind.
This is what makes personal action, such as Hefty’s Garden, such a beautiful, empowered and achievable response to crisis. We can use our own creative initiative to take responsibility and raise awareness for supporting our deep-rooted, yet fragile, interconnected life on earth, whilst also bringing an extra touch of brightness to the sunny side of the street.
